Positioning a Camera

Curious how to look your best on andAfter? Here are our tips for positioning the camera just so.

Make it easy to be consistent

The key for camera positioning when using andAfter is consistency. For your very first photo, try to capture the image from a position that will be simple to replicate each day. For example, if you are taking a selfie, holding your arm completely outstretched is much easier to match everyday then if you have your arm slightly bent. You won’t mess up the angle that way!

Clean your lens

A lot of times you’ll be using your phone’s front-facing camera so make sure to wipe the lens clean before taking your progress photos. Sweat, makeup, and all that other gunk that gets on a phone can get in the way and reduce the crispness and clarity of your images.

How’s the lighting?

No need to trot out professional studio lighting but do keep an eye on where the light falls on your photo. Is the light falling on your face? Is it behind you? Are you blown out and hard to see or so dimly lit that you lose the details in your photo that make it memorable? When in doubt, err for more light, not less.
